Smoking is banned throughout the inside of COEX Mall, so if you want to smoke while visiting an exhibition or shopping, you need to go out to one of the 5 designated areas outside the building. Every area has ashtrays.

The 5 locations and how to get there

① East Gate smoking area — come out of Samseong Station Exit 5, turn right, and it is next to underground parking GATE 2. It is the closest to Samseong Station and easy to reach on rainy days. ② Rooftop parking smoking area — take the central elevator up to the R floor, and the smoking booth is on the left or straight ahead. It is spacious and relatively quiet. ③ North Gate smoking area — come out of Bongeunsa Station Exit 7, and it is between the flower beds behind ASEM Plaza. It is close for people using exhibition halls A–B or coming from Bongeunsa Station. ④ Parnas Mall 1F parking entrance — where you enter the Parnas Mall 1F parking after coming out from Samseong Station toward COEX (user report, confirmed with on-site photos). ⑤ Outside the 2nd floor of the City Airport Terminal — a semi-open smoking area outside the 2nd floor of the City Airport Terminal building (user report, confirmed with on-site photos).

Recommendations by situation

If you came from Samseong Station, we recommend the East Gate; if you are on the Bongeunsa Station or exhibition hall side, the North Gate; and if you want a quiet smoke during busy hours, the rooftop parking. The East Gate gets especially crowded during exhibitions. If you are on the Parnas Mall or City Airport Terminal side, areas ④ and ⑤ respectively are closer.

Wherever you are in the mall, find the nearest gate

COEX Mall is large, so it is faster to decide which exit to use before looking for a smoking area. If you are on the Samseong Station or Parnas Mall side, the East Gate (next to underground parking GATE 2) or the Parnas Mall 1F parking entrance area is close; if you are on the exhibition hall A–B or Bongeunsa Station side, the North Gate area (flower beds behind ASEM Plaza) is close. A neutral option reachable from anywhere is the booth on the rooftop parking R floor, which you reach by the central elevator.

During exhibitions and events

On days with large exhibitions, the East Gate area gets crowded enough that there is a wait. In that case, it is better to spread out to the relatively quiet rooftop parking R floor booth or the North Gate area. For event venues on the City Airport Terminal side (toward the Grand InterContinental), the semi-open area outside the 2nd floor of the City Airport Terminal is the closest.

FAQ

Is there a smoking room inside COEX Mall?

No. Smoking is completely banned inside COEX Mall and the exhibition halls, so you can only use the designated outdoor smoking areas.

Which COEX smoking area is closest to Bongeunsa Station?

The North Gate smoking area, between the flower beds behind ASEM Plaza after you come out of Bongeunsa Station Exit 7, is the closest. It is also close for visitors to exhibition halls A–B.
