Seongsu Station Smoking Areas — Under the Elevated Tracks at Exits 2 and 3 (User Report)

Last checked 2026-07-24 · Seoul, Seongdong-gu · Korean original

The Seongsu-dong café street and the knowledge industry center area have many non-smoking zones, so it is hard to find a place to smoke. There are two areas where you can smoke under the elevated tracks at Seongsu Station. One is registered in Seongdong-gu public data, and the other was received as a user report in July 2026 (pending verification). Please also check the signs on site.

How to get there

Exit 2 side: come out of Exit 2 and turn back the opposite way, and it is right under the elevated tracks (user report). Exit 3 side: there is a smoking area registered by Seongdong-gu under the elevated tracks in front of Exit 3. Both are under the Seongsu Station elevated tracks, so they are sheltered from rain.

Using the areas

The station exits are busy, so please be considerate of pedestrians. The area within 10 m of a subway entrance is a non-smoking zone, so please smoke only inside the designated areas under the elevated tracks.

If you are visiting Seoul Forest or the café street

The whole of Seoul Forest is a non-smoking zone, and smoking in the alleys of the Seongsu-dong café street easily leads to complaints and enforcement. The two areas under the Seongsu Station elevated tracks (on the Exit 2 and Exit 3 sides) are effectively the only confirmed designated areas, so if you are on a café tour, it is best to use them when you pass Seongsu Station. Both are under the elevated tracks, so you can use them even on rainy days.

Alternatives toward Wangsimni

Besides Seongsu Station, Seongdong-gu public data also lists designated areas at Wangsimni Plaza and near Wangsimni Station Exit 6 (an enclosed booth next to the bicycle parking). Wangsimni is two stops away on Line 2, so keep this in mind if you are moving on from Seongsu to Wangsimni.
