Where the 6 spots are
① Exit 1 smoking area — next to Pizza Hut at Exit 1 on the Seoul Station plaza (Airport Railroad side). ② Exit 3 smoking lounge — right in front of Exit 3. It is an open-type facility managed by Korail (Korea Railroad Corporation). From the KTX waiting hall, the Exit 3 side is closer along the way. ③ Seoul Station Exit 8 — the side of Seoul Square straight ahead as you come out, partially open (user-submitted, confirmed with on-site photos). ④ Seoul Station Exit 11 — an outdoor area on the sidewalk toward Dongja-dong near the exit (user-submitted, confirmed with on-site photos). ⑤ Pungnim I-One Plus public open space — the public open space of a large building on the West Station side (user-submitted, confirmed with on-site photos). ⑥ Seoul Station Exit 1, 2nd-floor plaza — an open-type area on the 2nd-floor plaza you reach via Exit 1 (a different level from the ground-level Exit 1; user-submitted, confirmed with on-site photos).
Things to note
The Seoul Station plaza area is designated a no-smoking zone, so smoking outside the designated facilities can result in a fine (up to 100,000 won). If your train leaves in 10 minutes, the Exit 3 lounge is the fastest for getting back to the waiting hall.
Shortest route by situation
If you are in the KTX waiting hall right before departure, the smoking lounge in front of Exit 3 is the quickest round trip. If you are heading to the Airport Railroad, the smoking area at Exit 1 (next to Pizza Hut) is on your way, and if you have time, the open-type area on the 2nd-floor plaza at Exit 1 is relatively quiet. On the West Station (west) side, the Pungnim I-One Plus public open space is close, and when heading out toward Namdaemun or Hoehyeon, the side of Seoul Square straight ahead of Exit 8 is close.
E-cigarettes and cigarette butts follow the same rules
In the no-smoking zones around Seoul Station, e-cigarettes (including heated and liquid types) are subject to enforcement just like regular cigarettes. After smoking, please put your butts in the ashtrays provided at the designated areas — throwing cigarette butts on the street carries a 50,000 won fine under the Wastes Control Act.
FAQ

No. Use the 6 designated areas: next to Exit 1 on the plaza, the smoking lounge in front of Exit 3, Exit 8 (side of Seoul Square), Exit 11 (Dongja-dong sidewalk), the Pungnim I-One Plus public open space, and the 2nd-floor plaza at Exit 1.
